5 MINUTES WITH ⚡MISS EDITOR & JUDGE

September 04, 2018

This week Kristina Rapley the Editor of Your Home and Garden Magazine takes 5 minutes to talk all things work, beauty, what inspires her, her wedding and more.

What a cool job you have, what are some of the highlights?! It really is the coolest job! We are so lucky to have such an amazing team and I reckon that’s the highlight for me - we’re probably way closer than any colleagues should ever be! We’re all quirky and colourful in our own way and there’s so much talent, dedication and creativity. I like to think that’s reflected in our brand and in the pages of every issue.

What does a typical work day look like for you? I live in West Auckland so after a long commute (fuelled by Mt Atkinson coffee and true crime podcasts) I settle in at our office in City Works Depot and map out my day. Usually I have a few meetings lined up as well as some brainstorming sessions with the team on feature ideas, styled shoots or bespoke content we put together for our advertising clients. We’ve always got some special project on the go. At the moment we’re working on a limited-edition issue due out in September full of amazing before & after transformations.

Your current must have homeware items ...Linen! I want all of the linen.

You recently got married, (You looked AMAZING by the way!) What would be your top 3 tips for any up and coming brides out there?! Aw thank you!

1 | Get your venue locked in before you do anything else as that will impact a lot of your other decisions.

2 | Go with your gut. Try not to get too many people’s opinions on things because it can be overwhelming with so many different views. Just do you.

3 | Relax! You’re going to have the best day and everything will fall into place, promise.

Who are your top 5 Instagram accounts you like to stalk?! (Click on each account to check it out)

What is your typical beauty routine?! I’m big on self-love and self-care and prioritise looking after myself. I’ll do a hair treatment and face mask at least once a week, light candles etc. I call it my “pamper night”. I also try to get out to the beach as much as possible. Salt air and sunshine is good for the skin and the soul.

Any beauty products you couldn’t live without and would like to share with readers?! I love Trilogy Rosehip oil for my face.

Tell us a secret ... I’m racked with anxiety over my upcoming renovation at home and can’t seem to make any decisions! I’m hoping a 3 week holiday in September will provide some timeout to think and get inspired.

What gets you out of bed each morning? The promise of coffee and the promise of coffee alone.

What inspires you? Nature. Also, people who are authentically themselves and live life by their own rules.

What’s in your handbag? Lots of stuff I should probably throw out.

Favourite hangout spots around Auckland to eat & drink at?! My husband and I have recently discovered The Piha Café, they make amazing pizzas and have a nice selection of craft beers and good wine. The perfect Sunday lunch after a wander along the beach.

Your favourite winter destination? Home.

You are a judge on this season of The Block NZ, what trends do you think we will see coming through from the teams this season?! I think we’ll see some bold paint choices, retro patterned tiles and hopefully some statement wallpaper.

People are also craving calming spaces so I think we’ll see some earthy, organic vibes in terms of styling – linens, woven textures, candles and soft layers.

Head on over to  YOUR HOME & GARDEN for a dose of home inspiration x
